One Act Operas Coming to UT Arlington Mainstage Theatre
University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company in a co-production with the Department of Music present Giacomo Puccini’s Opera SUOR ANGELICA sung in English and GIANNI SCHICCHI sung in Italian. The two one act operas will run February 27 – March 4, 2018.
In SUOR ANGELICA, Angelica is a sister in a convent who works and prays happily with the other nuns, but also holds a secret longing and a past shrouded with a dark secret. In GIANNI SCHICCHI, a death has occurred in the noble family of the Donati, leaving a “sorrowful” family eager for their inheritance. Rinuccio Donati, a man in love, seeks the hand of a commoner Lauretta, but when troubles arise in the Donati Mansion, their only hope may be Lauretta’s father, the clever and guile, Gianni Schicchi!
SUOR ANGELICA AND GIANNI SCHICCHI feature UTA students from both Departments of Music and Theatre Arts. Production dates are February 27, March 1 and 3 at 8:00 p.m. and March 4 at 2:30 p.m., 2018 in the UT-Arlington Mainstage Theartre (room 174) of the Fine Arts Building North, located at 502 South Cooper Street on the UT-Arlington campus.
