Fanfare for the Common Man
Aaron Copland
Aaron Copland
Featuring the combined Brass / Percussion sections from the Arlington Community Band and Mansfield Wind Symphony
Rick Baker, Conductor
Written in 1942 for Eugene Goossens and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, this venerable piece was premiered by the CSO on March 14, 1943. The work drew
inspiration from a speech by Vice President Henry Wallace, in which he proclaimed the dawning of the “Century of the Common Man”. Composer Aaron Copland considered
and rejected many titles before arriving at Fanfare for the Common Man, as he wished to honor all who worked for victory during World War II, on and off the battlefield.
