Timeless Concerts Presents the Sound of Music in Austria

Save the date: Saturday, July 15 - 8 pm at the Arlington Museum of Art.

The musicians of Timeless Concerts are excited to introduce the Trio Phantasy of Austrian composer Joseph Marx (1882-1964) to our audience! Marx, born in Graz, the capital of Austria, studied violin, cello and piano, and took degrees in philosophy and art history, all the while composing music at Graz University. He obtained the position of professor of theory at the Vienna Music Academy. He also was an adviser to the Turkish government in laying the foundations of a conservatory in Ankara. Marx's music drew from many sources. He could be called a late romantic impressionist. Although one can hear certain affinities with the music of Debussy, Ravel, Respighi, Richard Strauss, Brahms, and Mahler, his sound is nonetheless his own.

Of course, we cannot have an Austrian themed concert without including music of the famous musical, that portrayed the Von Trapp family of Austria: The Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein! We promise two sing-alongs! Our opera singers will also represent Austria with arias by Mozart from Don Giovanni and more.

A post-concert party included in the ticket price. Give your requests to pianist Erik Barnes. Enjoy a buffet of fruit/cheese/desserts, along with a cash bar or BYOB. Tickets and concert info can be found on the Timeless Concerts' website. General admission is $32, senior 60+ $27, college student $15 and youth 11-17 may attend free with 1 paying adult.
