The University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company presents MAVLAB One-Act Series. Come experience the inaugural season of innovative one-act plays that is MAVLAB! The series includes IVES’ LIVES by David Ives, directed by Associate Professor Dr. Dennis Maher, AND TELL SAD STORIES OF THE DEATHS OF QUEENS by Tennessee Williams, directed by Senior Lecturer, Detra Payne and THIRST by Eugene O’Neill, directed by Maverick Theatre Company member, Samantha Wierick. Production dates and location are October 26 – 29 at 502 S. Cooper Street, The Studio Theatre, Room 137 of Fine Arts Building North. All MAVLAB productions are rated PG-13.
IVES’ LIVES will be presented on Oct. 26 and Oct. 28 at 8 pm. David Ives is one of the most successful playwrights today. He provides three whimsical and thought-provoking short plays featuring his trademark skill with language and quirky characters.
AND TELL SAD STORIES OF THE DEATHS OF QUEENS by Tennessee Williams will be presented on Oct. 27 at 8 pm and Oct. 29 at 2:30 pm. Candy Delaney is a successful New Orleans interior decorator who is also a drag queen approaching "her" 35th birthday. On the rebound from a seventeen-year relationship, Candy has picked up a rough sailor, Karl, on whom she lavishes money in the hopes of finding and landing love again.
THIRST by Eugene O’Neill will be presented on Oct. 26, 27, and 28 at 8 pm and Oct. 29 at 2:30 pm. Three shipwreck victims struggle to survive in a small lifeboat surrounded by sharks. As a result of thirst their normal reality quickly turns to desperation and madness. THIRST shows just how far humans will go to survive.
