University of Texas at Arlington’s Department of Theatre Arts Presents SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD

The University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company presents SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD. It is the first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County). This moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.

SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD is about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice or take a stand or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today. Be transported to the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship and to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue. Meet a startling array of characters that range from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams... and a soulless marriage. With a powerhouse, driving, and exquisitely crafted score, it runs the gamut of today’s popular music.

UTA Theatre Arts Students Collaborate with Broadway Artists to Amplify the Voices of Tomorrow by Empowering Them Today - Virtual World Premiere October 23-25

The University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company presents MOVING FORWARD: A Devised New Work, an exciting new musical theatre piece created in a collaboration between Broadway guest artists and students from the Theatre Arts and Dance department. The show was created and rehearsed virtually over the course of three weeks. Written by the cast, Moving Forward features text and music that reflect the students’ thoughts, concerns, and feelings about witnessing a social movement during a global pandemic.

The Pirates of Penzance Returns to UTA

The University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company in association with UTA’s Department of Music proudly presents THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE with book and lyrics by Sir William S. Gilbert and music by Sir Arthur Sullivan. THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE follows young Frederic who has turned 21 and thus completed his apprenticeship to a band of kindhearted pirates. He falls for Mabel, the lovely daughter of law-enforcer Major-General Stanley, only to learn that his birthday falls on February 29, which means through a leap year loophole he is technically still a pirate. It’s a hilarious farce with sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, and an eccentric Major-General.

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE is presented in the UTA Mainstage Theatre (Fine Arts Building, North Section, Room 174) located at 502 South Cooper Street on the UTA campus. Performances are February 27, 28, & 29, 2020 at 7:30 pm, and March 1, 2020 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $12 for the general public and $10 for students/senior citizens/UTA faculty & staff. UTA's Departments of Theatre Arts & of Music Present The Music Man

The University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company proudly presents its final musical of the 2018-19 season, Meredith Willson’s THE MUSIC MAN. This musical follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize – despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall. By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic, and touching, THE MUSIC MAN is family entertainment at its best. Meredith Willson’s six-time, Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957 and is a family-friendly story to be shared with every generation.

University of Texas at Arlington's Department of Theatre Arts Presents COMPANY - Nov. 14 - 18, 2018

The University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company presents its first musicalof the 2018-19 season, Stephen Sondheim’s COMPANY. From musical theatre’s most renowned composer, COMPANY is largely regarded as a trailblazer of the dark-comedy, modern-musical genre and the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Lyrics and Best Book. On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor, Robert, contemplates his unmarried state. Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks and even a wedding, his friends – “those good and crazy people [his] married friends” – explain the pros and cons of taking on a spouse. The habitually single Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood during a hilarious array of interactions.

COMPANY will be presented in the UTA Mainstage Theatre (Fine Arts Building, North Section, Room 174) located at 502 South Cooper Street on the UTA campus.
